Our story

We could afford one. That was the problem.

Two owners, one crew, no showroom, no commissioned salespeople. This is the third company we have started to fix something that annoyed us, and it is the one we care about most.

01 · The question

Both of us grew up in families that had a pool. Neither of us understood, until much later, what that had actually cost.

Tiffany and I have worked for everything we have, and a few years ago we were fortunate enough to put in a really nice pool of our own. It is genuinely one of the best things we have ever spent money on. Not the pool. The Saturdays.

And standing in it, the thought that would not leave me alone was not we made it. It was why can't everybody have this? Why does a hole in the ground with water in it cost what a car costs? Why does it take an entire summer? Why did three companies quote us three completely different numbers and none of them would put a date on paper?

I could not let it go. That is a personality defect, and it is also the only reason this company exists.

02 · What we found

So I went and looked at why. The answer was not materials. It was the shape of the market.

On one side you have a long tail of small operators. Some of them are excellent. Plenty of them are undercapitalised, take a deposit in March to finish a job they started in October, and are not answering the phone by the time your yard is open. There is no schedule because there cannot be one.

On the other side, a handful of large players have spent years consolidating. Buying up the good crews, buying up the suppliers, buying up each other. And when three companies control the capacity in a market, the price is whatever they decide it is, and the calendar is whatever is convenient for them.

The homeowner loses both ways. Pay less and gamble on whether anyone shows up. Pay more and still wait until August. Nobody is competing on speed, nobody is competing on transparency, and so nobody has to.

I was arrogant enough to think I could fix it. You kind of have to be. Nobody disrupts an industry politely. Andrew Catapano
03 · Why we think we can

This is not the first industry we have walked into and refused to accept.

I have started two companies before this one. Both of them existed because something was more expensive, slower or more complicated than it needed to be. Both of them are still running today, and neither one is run by me, which is the part I am proudest of. If you build something that only works while you are standing in the room, you did not build anything.

Company one

MyWebWow

A school, named after my son. Built because education for kids who learn differently should not depend on your zip code or your income.

Run today by its own leadership
Company three

People say "family owned" on a website because it tests well. I want to be more specific than that.

Tiffany and I are two entrepreneurs who are genuinely, unreasonably in love with each other. We work together every day and we still want to have dinner together at the end of it. That is either the best thing about this company or the worst, depending on the week, and I would not run it any other way.

She is the reason it is a company and not a rant. I am the one who says somebody should fix this. She is the one who says fine, then let's fix it, and then actually builds the thing that makes it work. Every business needs one of each. Most of them only have the first.

What that means for you is small and it is not nothing: when you call the number on this site, one of the two people who own this company picks up. Not a call center. Not somebody on commission who will be gone by October. Us.

05 · What we actually did about it

Disruption is a word people use when they have not changed anything. Here is ours, and you can check every line of it.

We carry four pools, not thirty

Our crew has set the same four shapes over and over. That familiarity is not a limitation, it is the entire reason a four day schedule is a promise instead of a hope.

We publish the price

Every model, on the internet, where a competitor can read it. Nobody else in this market will do that, which tells you something about the market.

We publish the schedule

Hour by hour, all 96 of them, before you sign. If somebody will not show you their schedule, it is because they do not have one.

We publish what happens if we fail

Every condition and every credit we owe you, on a page anyone can read. A guarantee with no stated consequence is not a guarantee, it is a slogan.

None of that is charity. We think being the fastest and the clearest is how a new company takes work away from established ones, and we would rather earn it that way than out-spend anybody on advertising. But it does mean that the family who could never quite get to yes on a pool can now see exactly what it costs and exactly when it would be finished, before they ever talk to us.

That was the whole point of the question I could not let go of.

What that actually buys you

Fewer things, done on a calendar.

All Pro Pools felt organized and professional from day one. We always knew where we were in the process and who to contact. That peace of mind mattered just as much as the pool itself.
